Tibor Del Grosso wins after race full of plot twists: "That was really intense"

The cyclocross enthusiast had already hoped for a duel between Tibor Del Grosso and Thibau Nys in Diegem and was not disappointed. The two national cyclocross champions fought a fierce head-to-head battle, in which Del Grosso ultimately came out on top.

"It was intense," the Dutch champion described after the race in conversation with Sporza. "I think I rode better through the sand each time today. I managed to get through it well, but Thibau was very strong in other sections. This is a really beautiful victory. Diegem is one of the most prestigious cyclocross races of the year."

Del Grosso won after a race full of twists and turns, but a crash by Nys in the sand pit proved to be the decisive moment. Just before that, the Dutchman had made a small mistake on a short climb, forcing him to chase back.

"I had to really push to come back after I unclipped from my pedal. But maybe Thibau also put pressure on himself in his attempt to stay away."

"When he fell, I saw a chance to go full gas, knowing that Thibau was stronger on the final climb. I went all out, hoping it would be enough."
