The breakthrough season of Tobias Halland Johannessen has come to a bitter end. During the Gran Piemonte race, the 26-year-old Norwegian broke his right collarbone.
Johannessen is now going home to recover and is forced to skip the last Italian classics that were still on his schedule.
Last week, his brother Anders told us about the special season of the two Norwegians, with Tobias's sixth place in the Tour de France as the highlight. “The Tour has changed something in our minds. It was an incredible feeling to have reached that level—Tobias as a leader, and me more in a support role.”
“You race against the very best riders in the world there, and that gives huge ambitions for the coming years. We now know for sure that we belong in the GC battles in grand tours. Before, we were never certain of that,” Anders concluded.
