Toms Skujins chooses Amstel Gold Race over Paris-Roubaix

Toms Skujins is choosing the Amstel Gold Race this spring and, if it’s up to him, will leave the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix behind. The 34-year-old Latvian has had a strong preparation for 2026 and sees more opportunities in the hilly terrain of Limburg than in Paris-Roubaix, he tells the camera of Wielerflits.

Skujins looks back on his winter and the first races of the season in Portugal with satisfaction. "I stayed healthy and consistent throughout the winter and was able to train well at home," said the Latvian champion at the Volta ao Algarve, where he helped lead his new teammate and team leader Juan Ayuso to overall victory.

Now, Skujins faces a busy spring campaign with Paris-Nice in between. He hopes to carry his classics season through to the Amstel Gold Race. According to him, the Limburg classic suits him better than Paris-Roubaix. "I’ve raced Paris-Roubaix several times now, but it’s not really a race that fits me perfectly," he explains.

"I’d rather fully commit to the Amstel Gold Race than split my focus between Roubaix and the Amstel. Roubaix is definitely an amazing race. If they called me, I’d be there. But if I have the choice, I’ll definitely go for the Amstel Gold Race."
