A striking moment during the climb of the Col du Glandon in the eighteenth stage of the Tour. King of the Mountains jersey holder Lenny Martinez was given a very long glued-on water bottle. His now-retired compatriot Thibaut Pinot was clearly bothered by this: he posted an emoji vomiting alongside the footage on X.
The Col du Glandon was the first climb of the day in the queen stage. Martinez was in the early breakaway but clearly struggled to keep up with his breakaway companions. However, he was helped by his team leader, who pulled him excessively long with food and two bidons, which Martinez ultimately didn’t even take with him.
Martinez then rejoined the group and took the mountain points on the Glandon, ahead of Thymen Arensman, one of his rivals, for the mountain classification. Martinez gained 20 points, Arensman 15. The gap between the two thus widened from twelve to seventeen points.
