Mattéo Vercher won this year’s Tour du Doubs and will remain the latest winner for a while. The organizers of the French one-day race (1.1) have unfortunately announced bad news: the race will not take place next year, after all. Financial problems have thrown a wrench into the plans.
The French race was scheduled for April 19, 2026, but has been cancelled due to 'financial reasons' following a meeting of the local organizing committee VC Morteau-Montbenoit. The negative financial balance for 2025 led to this drastic decision, resulting in the cancellation of the event.
According to the chairman of the organizing club, Jean-François Ducrot, this also creates an opportunity to regroup. "This allows us to rethink the current format of the event and design a renewed edition, respecting the race’s history and our connection to the region," he said in a press release.
The Tour du Doubs was won this year by the French rider Mattéo Vercher, ahead of fellow countryman Adrien Maire and Spaniard Iván Cobo. In recent years, well-known names such as Lenny Martinez, Jesús Herrada, Valentin Madouas, Dorian Godon, and Stefan Küng have also topped the podium.
The race was part of the Coupe de France, a race series that links a number of French one-day races. This series will undergo significant changes in 2026. Not only the name but also the races and broadcast channels will change. In total, there will be fourteen races in the competition (with the cancellation of the Tour du Doubs), compared to seventeen this year.
