Filippo Baroncini is back in full training for the new cycling season, and that, in itself, is a victory. The Italian rider was kept in an induced coma for two weeks after a severe crash in the Tour of Poland, and things looked very grim for a while. "It's a miracle that I'm still alive," he described it himself in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
In conversation with the sports newspaper, the UAE Emirates XRG rider looked back for the first time on a very difficult period for him. During a crash in the third stage of the Tour of Poland, finishing in Walbrzych, the Italian sustained multiple injuries. The damage Baroncini suffered was so serious that he was kept in an induced coma for two weeks.
After initial treatments and a clavicle surgery in Poland, Baroncini was transferred to Italy for two major operations, one on his jaw and one on his spine. "Luckily, my eyes were spared by a few millimeters... I didn't suffer any serious internal injuries. I would like to speed up the process, but at the same time, I know I must not."
It is so so beautiful to see Filippo Baroncini being on the bike again after his hard crash at Tour de Pologne where he suffered fractures to his face, collarbone, and cervical vertebrae, and was also kept in an induced coma for his health.
Keep going Filippo. 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/2bw98MGsSR

The former U23 world champion is determined to return to top form. "I know recovery has to happen at the right pace so I can reach my full potential again. I need to monitor my mouth and jaw closely. I have lost a lot of muscle mass and weight, but I must and want to look ahead. I want to make a grand comeback."
The 25-year-old rider is already back on his bike preparing for the new cycling season. The Italian is currently with his UAE teammates in Dubai for the first training camp leading up to the 2026 cycling year.
