UCI expands yellow card system

The yellow card system is being expanded. Starting in 2027, yellow cards can also be issued in .1-level races (both for men and women). This was not the case until now.

The UCI introduced the yellow card system on January 1, 2025, after a test phase at the end of 2024. Since then, the system applies in races at the following levels: UCI WorldTour, UCI Women's WorldTour, the men's and women's UCI ProSeries races, the Olympic Games, the World Championships, and continental championships (Elite and Under-23).

Next year, 1.1 races (one-day races) and 2.1 races (stage races) will be added. The UCI implements this expansion following a recommendation from SafeR, the organization focused on safety in professional cycling. Moreover, the international cycling federation has had 'positive experiences' with the introduction of the yellow card system.
