Vingegaard hugs his children and Trine after Giro win: "Brings tears to my eyes"
Jonas Vingegaard has completed the trilogy. After twice winning the Tour de France and once the Vuelta a España, the Dane has now also won the Giro d'Italia. "It's amazing, it’s something I have dreamed of my entire life," he said emotionally during the flash interview after the final stage.
"That I am now able to win the Giro is something special," Vingegaard continued. "This is a special day for me. Winning this race is something I have dreamed of... I can't find the words. Today in Rome was truly incredible. There were so many people lining the roads. It’s an honor to ride through Rome in the pink jersey. It’s so beautiful to finish these three weeks like this."
When Vingegaard crossed the finish line, his wife and children were waiting for him. "That made it even more special. It brings tears to my eyes," said the leader of Visma | Lease a Bike, before wiping away a tear. "They are always there for me."
