Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado will miss the X2O Trophy round in Hofstade. The multiple cyclocross world champion crashed in the opening phase of the Koksijde World Cup on Sunday and injured her back. As a result, she will not participate in Hofstade.
The withdrawal from the X2O Trophy round is a tough blow for the leader of Fenix-Deceuninck. Alvarado had finished second in the Antwerp World Cup on Saturday, and despite her crash on Sunday in Koksijde, she still managed to finish third. "With the rest of the season in mind, Ceylin is not willing to take any risks, which is why she will miss Hofstade with a heavy heart," her team wrote on Instagram.

These are not easy weeks for Alvarado either way. She only made her season debut at the end of November in the Flamanville World Cup. "Three weeks ago you start and hope that you’re back on track after that knee injury. But then a week later you get seriously ill. To this day, I still carry the remnants of that on the bike. It has definitely improved a lot, but here and there you still notice it. But as long as it keeps getting better, it’s good," she said to our camera after Koksijde.
