Lorenzo Fortunato will continue racing for XDS Astana in the coming years. The Italian climber has extended his contract with the Kazakh team by two years. He is now secured until the end of 2027.
The 29-year-old Fortunato has been riding for Astana since 2024. He has had a strong year, wearing the blue jersey as leader of the mountains classification in the Giro d'Italia, winning a stage in the Tour of Romandie, and finishing second in the Vuelta a Burgos.
"I am very happy to be able to extend my contract with the team after two years here," Fortunato said in a statement on the team's website. "Honestly, I had no doubts. I feel great at XDS Astana, so the decision was very easy. I didn’t even consider other options. Over the past two years, I have made big progress, and I hope to keep improving. I think this season went very well, and next year I want to keep winning and represent the team at the highest level in the WorldTour and the Grand Tours."
Alexandr Vinokourov, team manager at XDS Astana, also recognizes Fortunato’s significant development. "Especially in terms of confidence and consistency," said the Kazakh. "This year he showed a very high level, both at the start of the season and in the Giro d’Italia – his main target – as well as in the second half of the season. After two years with us, Lorenzo is fully integrated into the team, so this new contract is a logical step for both him and us."
