A quiet day for the GC riders? Jonas Vingegaard is not so sure

The eighteenth stage between Fai della Paganella and Pieve di Soligo is, especially compared to the past days, not too challenging, but the sting is in the tail. So, pink jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard is on alert before the start.

"I think this could be a very good day for the early breakaway. Of course, it depends on whether a team wants to control the race for the stage win, but it could go either way," Vingegaard looks ahead with Cycling Pro Net.

"As a GC team, we definitely need to be sharp for that final climb. It is quite steep," the Dane refers to the particularly steep Muro di Ca’ del Poggio (1.1 km at 12.1%), with the summit just over ten kilometers from the finish.

Battle among the general classification riders?
"We definitely need to be ready for a small fight. I would not be surprised if we get attacks from the other GC contenders. On the other hand, there are two very tough mountain stages coming up next, so it’s also possible that riders want to save energy for the upcoming days."

Vingegaard is further very satisfied with how his Giro is going. "We made a strict plan beforehand and we are perfectly on track. My form here in the Giro is exactly as we wanted. Hopefully, I can take another step forward heading into the Tour de France."
