An incredible feeling: Andresen has dream debut for Decathlon CMA CGM

Tobias Lund Andresen has made an excellent start for his new team Decathlon CMA CGM. The 23-year-old Dane showed off his fast legs on Wednesday at the Tour Down Under: Andresen defeated Matthew Brennan and Sam Welsford in Tanunda.

With teams like Ineos Grenadiers (for Sam Welsford), Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe (Danny van Poppel), Visma | Lease a Bike (Matthew Brennan), and Decathlon CMA CGM (Tobias Lund Andresen), a sprint finish was expected and delivered in Tanunda.

In the finishing town, Dane Lund Andresen received a perfect lead-out from his team, after which he was able to throw his wheel across the line first. Brennan and Welsford came close in the final meters but couldn’t deny him his first victory in French colors.

“Winning feels fantastic. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I felt like this,” said the stage winner, who rode for Picnic PostNL last year, via his new team’s channels. “This is an incredible feeling. The bike (Van Rysel, ed.) is incredibly fast, and my teammates did a fantastic job today. I really enjoyed this finish.”

“You don’t often execute a plan this precisely, but today we managed it. Tomorrow is another challenge, but winning the opening stage gives the team a huge confidence boost. It’s a true honor to wear the leader’s jersey in a WorldTour event like the Tour Down Under, and I hope we can keep the jersey within the team.”
