The addition of the Montmartre climb delivered the expected spectacle in the final stage of the Tour de France 2025. According to Pierre-Yves Thouault, deputy director of the ASO, the inclusion of the climb is not a one-time event.
To Le Parisien, Thouault revealed that Montmartre will become a permanent feature in the Tour de France finale. "Of course, we want to keep visiting Montmartre. The success exceeded our expectations, and we have the desire to sustain this success long term," he stated.
Consultation with city administration
"Soon we will have a meeting with representatives of the city and the prefecture. We will look at possible improvements. I am especially thinking about accessibility for the public in certain areas," the Frenchman continued.
The Côte de la Butte Montmartre, as the climb is fully named, was included for the first time this year in the final stage route, after already serving as the decider in the 2024 Olympic road race. The climb had to be tackled three times. Wout van Aert won the final stage by dropping Tadej Pogacar on the ascent.
