Bryan Coquard aims for track cycling again in coming years with an ambitious goal

Bryan Coquard will continue to compete on the road for Cofidis in the coming years, but the 33-year-old Frenchman will combine this with track cycling. He has an ambitious goal: he hopes to win gold at the next Olympic Games in 2028 in Los Angeles.

We mainly know the fast Coquard these days as a road rider, but he began his career as a track cyclist, specializing in the omnium. And with success, as in 2012 he won Olympic silver in this event in London. He also became world champion in the team pursuit in 2015. Additionally, Coquard earned two European and multiple French titles.

In short, Coquard has already earned his stripes as a track cyclist, but in the 'later stages' of his career, he is returning to where it all began. And Coquard is setting the bar high, as he wants to team up with his Cofidis teammate Benjamin Thomas to go for Olympic gold in the team pursuit in two years. This was reported by the Spanish cycling site Ciclo21.

A long road
Before he can dream of gold, he first needs to collect 250 UCI points in smaller track events in order to qualify for World Cup races and secure his place in the French track team.

Coquard has also set his sights on the upcoming Track Cycling World Championships (October 14-18) in Shanghai. His current team Cofidis supports him on his path to Los Angeles and will give him more freedom to combine road and track cycling.
