Since this year, Denmark has added a WorldTour race to its calendar with the Copenhagen Sprint. The two one-day races (men’s and women’s) took place two weeks before the Tour de France for men, but that will no longer be the case in 2026. Next year, the races will be held on the weekend of June 13 and 14.
With the Copenhagen Sprint, a brand new Danish WorldTour race has been added to the schedule this year. After lobbying efforts, the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Cycling Federation received the green light to organize two top-level races.
Five parties, including the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Cycling Federation, submitted a proposal for a top-tier one-day race to the UCI. Besides Copenhagen and the cycling federation, Sport Event Denmark, Wonderful Copenhagen, and the Roskilde Municipality were also involved in the project. This plan was approved in December 2023.
The WorldTour Copenhagen was on the calendar for the first time this year (wins by Lorena Wiebes and Jordi Meeus) and will definitely take place again in 2026 and 2027. However, next year the sprinters’ race will no longer serve as the ultimate preparation race for the Tour de France. The event has received a new date on the UCI calendar for 2026, moving from late June to mid-June.
The Danish cycling spectacle will now be held on the weekend of June 13 and 14. On Saturday, June 13, the women kick off the event, followed by the men’s race the day after.
