Trofeo Alfredo Binda adjusts route due to weather conditions
The organizers of the Trofeo Alfredo Binda have—after consulting with the race commissioners and informing the representatives of the riders and teams—decided to (slightly) adjust today's route. This is due to the recent snowfall.
Because of the snowfall on the night from Saturday to Sunday around the first categorized climb of the day, the roads are currently too slippery and it is unsafe to race over them. The organizers therefore feel compelled to intervene.
The riders will take an alternative route from kilometer marker 25.3 to 39.8, after which the peloton will continue on the original Trofeo Alfredo Binda course.
The finale of the prestigious Italian classic has not been altered further. In other words, the race will erupt again on the local circuit of about 18 kilometers in and around Cittiglio, the former home of the Italian cycling legend Alfredo Binda, after whom the race is named.
This local loop features two (potential) selection points with the Orino climb (2.6 kilometers at 4.9%) and the steeper Casale climb (800 meters at 7.1%). After the latter ascent, there are only ten descending kilometers left to the finish in Cittiglio.
