Cross-country legend Johannes Klaebo won't switch to cycling

With no fewer than eleven gold medals, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo can be called the most successful Winter Olympian. The 29-year-old Norwegian is a phenomenon in cross-country skiing, but he has hinted at a possible switch to cycling. However, for the time being, there is no talk of a career change.

Anyone who watched the recent Winter Olympics saw the name Johannes Høsflot Klæbo frequently. In the mountainous surroundings of Milan, he made Olympic history by winning no less than six gold medals in cross-country skiing. Klæbo’s tally now stands at eleven Olympic titles: no other Winter Olympian has ever done better.

In other words: a new challenge seemed to be on the horizon. In the past, Klæbo spoke about his love for cycling, and with the Uno-X Mobility cycling team as a private sponsor, the path seemed paved for a career switch. "First, the Games come first. After that, I will seriously think about what I want to do. Maybe signing with Uno-X will be my next goal," he had previously hinted at a new adventure.

Gino Van Oudenhoven, the Belgian team director at Uno-X Mobility, is clear in an interview with Sporza. "Social media is social media. If something happens, we’ll roll with it. But it’s absolutely not the intention for him to race," he said.

After the Games, Klæbo also sent a clear message: the Norwegian made it clear that in the coming years he will focus on the next Olympic Games in 2030 in the French Alps.
