Demi Vollering appeals to UCI: "I really want a women's Giro di Lombardia now"

Demi Vollering trained at Lake Como on Friday. On Instagram, the Dutch rider then shared several snapshots from her training ride in Italy, afterwards addressing UCI president David Lappartient. "Now I really want a Giro di Lombardia for women," she writes.

On Friday, Vollering decided to take the car to Lake Como to complete an endurance ride in the sun. That wasn’t possible in Switzerland due to persistent snow. In the Lombardy region, Vollering rode a 141-kilometer route with her partner Jan de Voogd, climbing the Madonna Del Ghisallo and the Muro di Sormano among others.

After the ride, Vollering is completely convinced: a Giro di Lombardia for women must happen now. The Italian autumn classic is currently the only monument without its own women’s race. The Tour of Flanders and Liège-Bastogne-Liège women’s races have existed for a long time, while Paris-Roubaix has had a women’s edition since 2021. Milan-San Remo followed in 2025.

For a women’s Giro di Lombardia, there are no plans yet. That’s why Vollering is now pushing forward toward the UCI: "Consider this my first note in response to your letter this week."
