Eli Iserbyt is quitting cyclocross. He announced this via a video message on Instagram. The 28-year-old cyclocross rider has not competed this season due to a persistent injury to his iliac artery. Now, he has received medical advice to end his career.
"In recent weeks, several doctors have informed me that it is no longer medically responsible for me to ride, whether recreationally or competitively at a high level," says an emotional Iserbyt. "I have always shared the great moments with you, but now I also want to share the news that unfortunately it is no longer possible for me to continue my career."
Iserbyt has already undergone three surgeries on the narrowed iliac artery, but these procedures did not have the desired success. As a result, he was unable to start his cyclocross season on November 11 as originally planned. Instead, it was decided to take four weeks of complete rest followed by new tests. These now reveal that it is medically unwise to continue his career.
Successful Career
Iserbyt is one of the most successful cyclocross riders of recent years. Besides numerous titles in the youth, junior, and under-23 categories (a total of two-time world champion, two-time European champion, and four-time Belgian champion), he also won the European Championship (2020) and Belgian Championship (2024) once each at the professional level. Additionally, he stood on the World Championship podium twice: he finished third in both 2022 and 2023.
In total, Iserbyt’s palmarès includes 54 victories among professional riders. Moreover, he has won the World Cup twice, the Superprestige twice, and the X2O Badkamers Trofee four times.
