Fallen Jorgenson limits damage thanks to Van Aert: "Wout did amazing work"
When Mathieu van der Poel accelerated in the second stage of Paris-Nice, Matteo Jorgenson was on his wheel. However, the American from Visma | Lease a Bike crashed on the treacherous gravel roads. Thanks to the efforts of his teammate Wout van Aert, there are still many possibilities in the GC, believes team director Jesper Mørkøv
"Compliments to the guys. They raced very well," says the Dane on the Visma | Lease a Bike website. "Steven took the front of the peloton throughout the day, while Tim (Rex), Filippo (Fiorelli), and Owain (Doull) made sure we were well positioned as we approached the gravel section. Matteo was exactly where he wanted to be and was one of the few GC contenders able to follow Mathieu."
"Unfortunately, Matteo lost traction and slipped out in the corner. That was really frustrating. After that, it was about trying to limit the damage. Wout did an excellent job keeping the gap to the breakaway as small as possible. Matteo is now seventh in the GC, 31 seconds behind Del Toro. In short, there is still a lot possible."
