Giro 2026: Jayco AlUla continues without sprinter Pascal Ackermann

Do not look for Pascal Ackermann in the final week of the Giro d'Italia. The German sprinter is suffering from stomach and intestinal issues and will not start today's sixteenth stage to Carí.

Ackermann is the 27th rider to abandon the Giro d'Italia. The fast German was supposed to handle the sprint duties for Jayco AlUla in the three-week race but never came close to a stage win. He did sprint to two top-ten finishes on Bulgarian soil (7th in Burgas and Sofia), but these were also his only standout performances.

Once in Italy, Ackermann—who in the past has won three stages and the points classification in the Giro—had to settle for a mere fifteenth place in the stage to Milan.

His team Jayco AlUla is now down to just five riders in the race, following earlier withdrawals by Andrea Vendrame (after a crash in stage two) and Felix Engelhardt (DNS in stage six). The team still fights for a good overall placing in Rome with GC leader Ben O'Connor.
