Giro 2026: Picnic PostNL Raisin further hit by Timo de Jong's wrist injury
Picnic PostNL Raisin continues to face misfortune in the Giro d'Italia. Casper van Uden hasn't yet had the chance to sprint after a crash that resulted in a wrist injury, and on the second day, four other teammates also went down. During the relatively calm stage to Sofia, Timo de Jong also crashed, seemingly with quite significant consequences.
"During the stage to Sofia, Timo crashed," the Dutch team reports. "He sustained abrasions on his left leg and is experiencing issues again with his left wrist, which he had previously broken earlier this season."
The team's medical staff will conduct further examinations upon arrival in Italy. It will then be clear whether De Jong can continue his three-week race in Italy after the rest day.
Earlier this year, De Jong suffered a wrist tear during the GP Denain. For that reason, he missed the entire spring classics season. In this Giro d'Italia, his role is to deliver Casper Van Uden and Sean Flynn into the final kilometer.
