For those who want to ride along with world champion Tadej Pogačar, this week is the time to be on Gran Canaria. On the Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean, the Gran Canaria 365 cycling tour is taking place, featuring several well-known names from the international cycling peloton.
The Maspalomas lighthouse served as the backdrop on Tuesday for the symbolic launch of the Gran Canaria 365 initiative. With this multi-day cycling week, Gran Canaria aims to position itself as a leading cycling destination. About twenty cyclists from the international peloton, led by world champion Tadej Pogačar, joined representatives from institutions and project developers to officially kick off the initiative.
"With the presence of Pogacar and other top cyclists, we can showcase that Gran Canaria offers ideal conditions to train year-round, thanks to its climate, infrastructure, and connectivity," says Antonio Morales, president of the Island Council, in an interview with Ciclismo a Fondo. "All of this within the context of sustainable development, aiming for diversification and a strong belief in the transformative power of sport."
