Groupama-FDJ riders hit with massive fines in Spain

The police in the Calpe area, Spain, have been quite busy these weeks. After Johannes Staune-Mittet was fined last week for wearing AirPods while cycling, ten riders from Groupama-FDJ were ticketed this week.

The reason? The Groupama-FDJ riders had ignored a red traffic light and continued riding—after which they were caught. The police then decided to fine the ten riders. Newly-signed Groupama rider Ewen Costiou was definitely present. He shared a photo of the scene on his Strava but later removed it.

In the end, the damage was limited—especially compared to a fine in a cycling race. The fine amounted to €100 per rider. Whether the team will pay the fines is still uncertain.
