Heavy crash in peloton chasing Van der Poel group: De Lie and Brennan involved
The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for men was once again shaken by a (serious) crash. In the thinned-out peloton, several riders went down at high speed. Matthew Brennan and Arnaud De Lie were the main victims.
The crash occurred about twenty kilometers from the finish – approaching the Muur van Geraardsbergen. The peloton was riding at a very high pace trying to chase down a breakaway that included riders like Mathieu van der Poel and Florian Vermeersch.
Visma | Lease a Bike and Lotto-Intermarché tried to restore the imbalance in support of their key riders Matthew Brennan and Arnaud De Lie, but these riders were involved in a high-speed crash. As a result, the two contenders saw their chances of victory completely disappear.

This was certainly not the first crash, as many other riders had already fallen earlier in the finale. Well-known names like Kaden Groves and Stefan Küng had a harsh introduction to the Flemish tarmac.
