The race jury of the Vuelta a España 2025 has granted a favor to Israel-Premier Tech. The ProTeam was hindered by pro-Palestinian protesters during the team time trial on Wednesday evening. Initially, the team finished nineteenth, 54 seconds behind the stage winner UAE Emirates XRG. However, in the official results, they have been moved up to fourteenth place.
The gap of the Israelis to the team of João Almeida and Juan Ayuso has also been reduced to 39 seconds, putting them on the same finishing time as Intermarché-Wanty and EF Education-EasyPost. This means they gain five places in the standings. Initially, the organization did not release any information about this. WielerFlits sought confirmation from Israel-Premier Tech, but just over fifteen minutes after publication, the organizer Unipublic issued the daily press communiqué.
It states the following: “Due to the exceptional incident that obstructed the normal course of the stage, the president of the race commission—as consulted with the organizer—has taken the sporting decision to maintain the time differences at the moment of the incident. Israel-Premier Tech is therefore given the final time of 26 minutes, five seconds, and 82 hundredths.” In total, the jury subtracted fifteen seconds from their original finishing time.
