Jason Tesson wins Classic Var
Jason Tesson claimed victory at the Classic Var. After nearly 180 kilometers of racing, the TotalEnergies rider gifted his team the win in a sprint ahead of Tord Gudmestad and Rick Pluimers.
What kind of race is the Classic Var?
The Classic Var is a one-day race in southeastern France. The course covers about 175 kilometers between La Garde and Brignoles and features several climbs that are not too steep, reaching up to around 400 meters in elevation. Last year, Christian Scaroni won the race, which finished on a steep climb.
Who was in the early breakaway?
At the Var on Saturday, we saw Noah Bögli, Jonas Walton, Antoine Berger, and Lucas Bénéteau ride in the early break, building a maximum lead of three minutes. Approaching the finale, teams like Bahrain Victorious and Unibet Rose Rockets took control to chase down the breakaway. The catch happened just over five kilometers from the finish.
How did the finale unfold?
It then became clear the race would end in a bunch sprint. Decathlon CGA CMA and Bahrain Victorious had the strongest lead-out trains in the final kilometers, but in the end, Jason Tesson was the fastest. He edged out Tord Gudmestad and Rick Pluimers.
