Jonas Vingegaard only 13th in time trial: "It was terrible"
Jonas Vingegaard did not have his best day in the Giro d'Italia today. The leader of Visma | Lease a Bike finished only thirteenth in the individual time trial, three minutes behind winner Filippo Ganna. "It was terrible," the Dane summed up his time trial afterwards—with a smile—at Cycling Pro Net.
"It was very long and flat, which is not my specialty," Vingegaard continued. "I've never been super strong in this here. I think I got through it quite well today. A flat time trial like this favors the bigger guys. The more power you have, the better."
Vingegaard still holds second place in the general classification, 27 seconds behind Afonso Eulálio. Despite his disappointing time trial, he now has a greater margin over the third place rider. That was Felix Gall, but it is now Thymen Arensman, who sits one and a half minutes behind Vingegaard.
"I'm in a good position," the Dane concluded. "I'm quite close to the pink jersey. Of course, it would have been nice to already have the pink jersey, because every day in the jersey is something to be happy about. But I'm also happy with the blue jersey."
