The Spanish newspaper Marca is certain: Jonas Vingegaard will participate in this year's Giro d'Italia. The Dane is said to have reached an agreement with RCS Sports, the organizer of the Giro.
Vingegaard has competed in eight Grand Tours during his career: five editions of the Tour de France and three editions of the Vuelta a España. Only in his debut race at the Vuelta (in 2020) did he not finish in the top two. He has never ridden the Giro d'Italia until now. However, according to Marca, which, like RCS Sports, is part of the RCS MediaGroup, this is set to change. The official announcement is expected in the coming weeks, the Spanish newspaper reports.
Double Giro-Tour?
The rumor has been circulating for some time that Vingegaard will ride the Giro this year. The climber of Team Jumbo-Visma | Lease a Bike has also hinted that he is open to competing. In November, he told La Dernière Heure that he would rather win his first Giro in 2026 than his third Tour. In that same interview, Vingegaard added that the Tour "is obviously the biggest goal." "Now it's a matter of whether we can combine the two next year," he said then. It seems that combination will indeed happen.
