Jordi Meeus surprises with transfer to Lidl-Trek

Jordi Meeus is on his way out at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. According to HLN, the Belgian sprinter will continue his career at Lidl-Trek.

Meeus has a contract expiring at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. The 27-year-old rider had several teams to choose from in recent months but has surprisingly opted for Lidl-Trek, where Jonathan Milan and Mads Pedersen are locked in for the long term.

Lidl-Trek reportedly offered Meeus a salary fifty percent higher than his current earnings at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, making it an offer the Belgian could not refuse.

Incidentally, the Belgian could have re-signed with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe but decided against it. Soudal Quick-Step was also in the running for Meeus, but that team chose Ben Turner instead. Moreover, they already have sprinters Tim Merlier, Paul Magnier, and Alberto Dainese on their roster.
