Mathieu van der Poel responds briefly but powerfully to Tadej Pogacar’s post: "GOAT"
Mathieu van der Poel and Tadej Pogacar: over the past years, they have fought many memorable battles. On Saturday, a new chapter was written at Milan-San Remo, although this time the Dutchman clearly had to acknowledge his superior. Afterwards, Van der Poel was full of praise for his Slovenian rival.
After five previous attempts, Saturday was finally the day for Tadej Pogacar: the Slovenian is now also on the Milan-San Remo roll of honor. The day after begins the great celebration for the world champion. “It’s so hard to put into words after such a rollercoaster ride,” he starts his post on Instagram.
“I can’t express how grateful I am to be surrounded by amazing people who support me through all the highs and lows. But yesterday was different. I don’t know exactly why, but without certain people I probably wouldn’t have been able to finish it off. Thanks to Florian, Felix, Brandon, Jan, Domen, and Isaac,” he refers to his six UAE Emirates teammates.

“And I also want to thank all the fans. Sorry that I can’t make time for you all the time in the world, but you know how much I appreciate every bit of encouragement during races. A special mention also for Tom Pidcock, Mathieu van der Poel, and Wout van Aert: it was an honor to compete with you.”
Van der Poel has meanwhile left a response that leaves little to the imagination: with a goat emoji, he describes Pogacar as the 'GOAT' (Greatest of All Time) of cycling.
