Maxim Van Gils struggled a lot with illness in 2025. To prevent this in the future, he underwent nasal surgery after the season. The Belgian from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe shared this with Sporza.
"They removed a piece from my nose. That will help me next season," says Van Gils, who had many health issues last year. In the spring, he suffered from his pollen allergy, and in the summer he fell ill twice. The setbacks didn’t stop there. "When I got sick again after the Bretagne Classic, I never really got back into shape."
Van Gils hopes for a better 2026. "I want to be in good form from the start and perform consistently. Unlike last season, I also want to ride a Grand Tour," says the 26-year-old regarding his goals.
Remco Evenepoel
Next season Van Gils will also be teammates with Remco Evenepoel, who is joining from Soudal Quick-Step. "How can Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe make Remco better? We can field a very strong team in every race, so Remco will always be very well supported. It's always nice to go to a race with Remco because as a team you have a better chance to win the race. Remco is a winner and not happy with second place. That makes him a fantastic rider."
