We previously reported that a new Italian-French stage race will appear on the UCI calendar in 2026, and now more details are emerging about the three-day Lyon-Turin stage race.
The multi-day event is classified as 2.1 on the cycling calendar and will take place from July 1 to July 3, 2026. As the name suggests, the race will take the peloton from the French city of Lyon to Turin in Italy. Notably, the race finishes just one day before the 2026 Tour de France, which will start in Barcelona.
Details about the route have not yet been leaked, but the local website Torinocronaca now reports that the opening stage will take place entirely on French soil.
Alpine stage and decisive climbing time trial?
The second stage is said to take place in the Italian border province of Cuneo, which gives the organizers room to design a demanding mountain stage right through the Alps. Lyon and Turin are about 300 kilometers apart and are mostly separated by the Alpine range. It now seems clear that climbing will be a key feature.
On the final day, the riders will compete not once, but twice—once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The first ‘half’ stage is reportedly a climbing time trial, expected to be decisive in the battle for the overall victory.
