In Fayetteville, known for the 2022 Cyclocross World Championships, the American National Championships took place last weekend. Andrew Strohmeyer was unable to defend his title in the elite category.
Strohmeyer was actually in Belgium for the World Cup in Namur. Since the start of the World Cup, he has been staying in Sittard and plans to remain there for the rest of the season, he previously revealed.
"Unfortunately, I don't receive a salary," said the 23-year-old talent in an extensive interview with our website. "No American cyclocross rider does, actually. I do have some individual sponsors who give me a bit of money, but that’s it. That’s why my main goal this season is to achieve good results here so that a European team picks me up. Then everything changes. I’m even skipping the American National Championships to be able to stay here throughout the winter.”
Eric Brunner was able to take advantage of this by claiming the third title of his career. Among the women, Lizzy Gunsalus became American national champion.
