Florian Lipowitz has undergone surgery on his nose. The reason? The 25-year-old stage racer frequently struggled with infections. "I hope the procedure will improve the situation," said the third-place finisher of the recent Tour de France in a podcast by the German broadcaster ARD.
Lipowitz had been considering surgery for some time but decided to postpone the operation until after the cycling season. The medical procedure has now taken place. The Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider hopes to be free of all physical discomfort.
The 2025 Tour revelation has already started preparing for the new racing season. "I was able to rest for six weeks, so I’m currently not in top form. But, I’m confident that I’ll be back in shape quickly," he said.
From the upcoming season, Lipowitz will be joined at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe by Remco Evenepoel. The German does not see the Belgian as an internal rival but rather welcomes the arrival of the double Olympic champion.
Lipowitz is not afraid of an internal battle for leadership, especially in stage races. On the contrary, he is eagerly looking forward to working with the 25-year-old Belgian. "Remco is one of the best riders in the world," Lipowitz told VTM Nieuws earlier. "So it’s a good thing that he’s coming to us. With Primož (Roglič, ed.) also on the team, we’ll have one of the best squads."
