It has been known for a while that Remco Evenepoel will race for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe next year, but the Belgian remains under contract with Soudal Quick-Step until December 31. In a video, the Belgian team takes a look back at Evenepoel’s formative years. "Once a wolf, always a wolf," the team writes on X.
In a clip of about a minute and a half, Soudal Quick-Step recalls many memories of the Belgian. The video highlights Evenepoel’s greatest sporting achievements in the team’s jersey, but also reflects on his serious crashes and subsequent recoveries. It ends with the message, "Thank you, Remco."
Evenepoel rode his final race for Soudal Quick-Step at the Tour of Lombardy. In the press conference before Il Lombardia, the rider looked back on seven very successful (professional) years. "I experienced some setbacks here, but thankfully many more great moments," he said in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad. "I rode alongside great champions and learned everything here."
From a junior pup to a grown wolf. The memories will last forever.
Thank you, @EvenepoelRemco!

"And after every setback, the team and I managed to come back at the highest level. That makes me proud. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am for the opportunities I received with this team and for the wonderful moments we shared."
"The highlight? That victory in the 2022 Vuelta a España. We aimed for a top-five spot, dreamed of a podium, and then suddenly I won, even after two teammates had withdrawn. It was the team’s first Grand Tour win and mine, one that also came completely unexpectedly. Those seven years will always have a place in my heart."

Many successes
Evenepoel scored as many as 67 pro wins during his time at Soudal Quick-Step. It was not just his overall Vuelta victory in 2022: the versatile talent also won Liège-Bastogne-Liège twice and the Clásica San Sebastián three times.
He was also very successful in championships, although this was in the colors of the Belgian federation. He became world champion no less than four times (road race and time trial), claimed the Olympic double at the Paris Games, and secured two European titles in the time trial.
