Will Oscar Onley still be riding for Picnic PostNL in 2026? It’s a question that has been on the cycling world’s mind for several days now, following initial rumors that INEOS Grenadiers have targeted the talent. Even the 22-year-old Scot himself isn’t ready to confirm with certainty whether he will stay with the Dutch team.
Onley is certainly hot property on the transfer market after his fourth place in the Tour de France. Until the final days, he was competing for a podium spot there, but Onley has actually been consistently among the top stage racers of the peloton all season long. He also finished fourth at the Tour Down Under and Tour of Britain, fifth at the UAE Tour, ninth in the Tour of the Basque Country, and third in the Tour de Suisse, where he also took a stage win.
In 2023, Onley progressed from the development squad of Picnic PostNL, the team with which he currently has a contract until the end of 2027. However, that contract is not a 100% guarantee of an extended stay. “For now, I am still a member of the team, yes. We’ll see. But yeah, it’s still a bit uncertain,” Onley told Cyclingnews.
Onley confirmed interest from, among others, INEOS Grenadiers, who see the young British rider as a potential new leader for stage racing. “It’s pretty clear that there’s interest in me after finishing fourth in the Tour. I think about fifteen teams have reached out to my manager or directly to the team. And you know... you have to take advantage of what I’ve achieved this year, but yeah, I can’t really say much right now.”
So, not a very reassuring explanation. Onley is expected to join the team’s training camp next week. Regarding his 2026 program, only the Tour Down Under is already confirmed.
