Remco Evenepoel cheers for Arsenal Saturday night during Champions League final

A special evening awaits Remco Evenepoel on Saturday, May 30, 2026. On that day, the Champions League final is scheduled between the football clubs Arsenal from England and Paris Saint-Germain from France. The Belgian has openly been a big fan of The Gunners, Arsenal’s nickname, for years. He is often seen wearing their jerseys and also attended a match in 2024.

Evenepoel will watch the final Saturday evening at his home in Spain. "On Saturday, I will return from my altitude camp to Calpe to train for two more weeks. Oumi will also be there, and she already knows that I will be on the couch at 6 p.m., or a bit earlier," he grins in La Dernière Heure. "A final is always something special. I used to play in finals myself. I think it’s always 50-50, but PSG can use last year’s victory as experience. Still, I am a Gunner, so I say Arsenal will win."

Of course, the Belgian has a football background himself, and Arsenal once showed interest in him. "When I played at PSV, I was named best player of an international U13 tournament. Several Premier League clubs then invited me for trials. These were Chelsea, Manchester United, Fulham, and Arsenal. But nothing really came of it. Naturally, it was tempting, but it was very early. At that age, I wasn’t really ready for such a big step. Do I regret it? Maybe a little, but I think I was too young to go so far from home to a country I didn’t know at all."

Thierry Henry
Evenepoel developed his love for Arsenal – besides his passion for Anderlecht, the Belgian top club where he also played and which he still regularly watches – thanks to Thierry Henry. Jurriën Timber and Leandro Trossard also play at Arsenal, a Dutchman and a Belgian respectively. "I know Leandro a bit because we have the same social media managers. And we saw each other in 2024, when Arsenal beat Chelsea 5-0. I would love to swap jerseys with him sometime. I’m a huge fan of his. I think it’s an honor for us that he is Belgian and that he has had a fantastic season at one of the biggest teams in the world.

Recently, Evenepoel had reason to celebrate, as The Gunners became English champions for the first time since 2004. On Instagram, we actually saw him training in his Arsenal shirt. "Whenever I’m at a training camp and Arsenal or Anderlecht play, I take a jersey with me and wear it during the match,” Evenepoel laughs. "This time too, because the English title was at stake. When that was secured, I wanted to celebrate. I asked Maxim Van Gils to make a video of it. I only wore it for ten minutes because it was way too hot."
