Remco Evenepoel debuts with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe by winning team time trial in Mallorca
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has won the Trofeo Ses Salines. In the team time trial on Mallorca, the German squad—with Remco Evenepoel as the powerhouse—defeated the Movistar team. Jayco AlUla took third place, ahead of the somewhat disappointing UAE Emirates XRG.
In 2025, the Trofeo Ses Salines was still a relatively flat one-day race, but this year featured a 26-kilometer team time trial. This TTT at the southernmost tip of Mallorca was 26 kilometers long and not very technical. The teams did not face any challenging climbs on the course. A duel was expected beforehand between UAE Emirates XRG and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, where Remco Evenepoel made his debut.
Before UAE and Red Bull took to the course, some smaller teams rode first. Initially, the men from Flanders-Baloise sat in the hot seat, but their time was wiped from the leaderboard by Unibet Rose Rockets. Although the French team with Dutch roots started with only six riders (instead of seven), they completed the course almost a minute faster than the Flemish ProTeam—a significant gap. But as mentioned, the real top teams were still to come.
Movistar grabs the top time
The first team considered a contender beforehand was Tudor Pro Cycling, featuring newcomer Stefan Küng. The Swiss riders proved those expectations were justified. They improved Unibet Rose Rockets’ time by 27 seconds and took over the lead. However, their lead didn’t last long. Jayco AlUla—with Michael Matthews and Jelte Krijnsen among others—was just one second faster.
Along the route, Jayco AlUla held the fastest time, which all competitors struggled to beat—including Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe and UAE Emirates XRG. They lost two and fourteen seconds respectively. Movistar did better, being only half a second behind at the halfway point. In the second part, the Spanish team managed to accelerate further: at the finish, they gained thirteen seconds on Jayco AlUla. Would the home riders take the victory?
Still, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe
The wait was on for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, who alongside Evenepoel had Florian Lipowitz, Mattia Cattaneo, Nico Denz, Lorenzo Finn, Gianni Moscon, and Maxim Van Gils. They also had some extra energy left in the tank. On the final section—with a headwind—they managed to turn their deficit into a lead. They beat Movistar by four seconds.
That sealed the victory, as UAE Emirates XRG fell short. Antonio Morgado, Marc Soler, Pavel Sivakov, Rune Herregodts, Felix Großschartner, Benoît Cosnefroy, and Nils Politt had to settle for fourth place. Behind the winners Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Movistar and Jayco AlUla finished second and third, respectively.
