Remco Evenepoel is still only 25 years old, but he has already claimed every possible time trial title. In other words, the Belgian can now focus on other races. At the Sportgala, the new leader of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe hinted that he will skip "a few championships" in 2026.
With an Olympic gold medal and multiple world, European, and Belgian time trial titles under his belt, Evenepoel has checked all his time trial goals. "Next year, I’m going to skip a few more time trial championships and focus on other things," Sporza quotes the best time trialist of the moment. "That makes it easier to make choices."
It is still unclear which time trial championships he will skip, but the Belgian Championships (June 25), World Championships (September 20), and European Championships (October 7) are three important dates on the 2026 calendar.
Evenepoel does intend to defend his world title. "I especially hope to ride a super strong Tour de France and to win one or, preferably, both jerseys at the World Championships," he said ambitiously.
A ‘normal’ program
Remco Evenepoel explained his season plan last week during the press conference of his new team Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe in Mallorca. The Belgian star calls his 2026 season ‘a normal season’, focusing on a program that includes the Tour of Catalonia, the Ardennes Classics, the Tour de France, and the World Championships in Canada.
"It’s a new team and a new environment for me, so let’s try to get through a normal season this year. We’ll see how it goes later. We talked and debated a lot, but for this year it’s important to get back to top form with a normal winter. Last year, I missed five or six months because of a crash, so this year I just want a normal season without problems."
