Where does Sam Welsford's future lie? It is now December, but the Australian still does not know which team he will ride for next season. This summer, he seemed to have an agreement with INEOS Grenadiers, but that contract has not yet been signed. However, this now appears to be only a matter of time.
Daniel Benson reports on his social media that Welsford is currently in Spain for the training camp of the British star team. However, according to the cycling journalist, this does not yet mean that the deal is finalized. A transfer from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe to INEOS Grenadiers now seems imminent.
In June, Benson already reported that there was an agreement for a two-year stint for Welsford with the British team, but in the end, no official contract was ever sent. As of October, there was still no official news regarding the agreement.
Hold on… he’s at the camp 100% but now the word on the mean streets of Denia is it’s still not signed…. https://t.co/8pTOJq3nM0

In the meantime, Welsford appeared to have found another team with Jayco AlUla, who were looking for a new sprinter after Dylan Groenewegen's departure. According to Benson, Welsford signed for an annual salary of 150,000 euros, while INEOS Grenadiers would top up the difference with the salary agreed upon in June.
Remarkable turn from INEOS Grenadiers
About two weeks ago, however, this transfer saga took a new twist: Welsford seemed close to an agreement with Jayco AlUla, but sources told Benson that INEOS Grenadiers still want to keep the 29-year-old rider under their June agreement.
