The first edition of the Veneto Women (1.1) was won by Silvia Persico. The 28-year-old rider from UAE Team ADQ – who just last Saturday took the bronze medal at the Gravel World Championships – was the strongest in the Italian one-day race and crossed the finish line solo. Marlen Reusser finished second, and Eleonora Camilla Gasparrini third.
Today, it wasn’t only men racing in the Italian Veneto region. The men’s Giro del Veneto is already in its 88th edition this year, but Wednesday also marked the first Veneto Women race on the calendar for women.
The participants faced a 115.9-kilometer race from Vicenza to Verona, with a flat start and a challenging finale featuring two climbs of the Salita delle Torricelle (4 km at 5%). On this ascent, the race fully ignited, and the strongest riders were separated from the rest.
UAE Team ADQ dictated the race pace with Persico, Gasparrini, and Italian champion and top favorite Elisa Longo Borghini. From this trio, Persico managed to break away and then soloed to victory. The versatile Italian thus still managed to put an exclamation mark on what has been a somewhat disappointing season, in which she rarely reached her top form.

Half a minute after Persico’s arrival, Marlen Reusser won the sprint for second place ahead of Gasparrini. Mireira Benito and Longo Borghini completed the top five. UAE Team ADQ – Persico’s team – can look back on a very successful race day, as Sofie van Rooijen earlier also claimed victory in stage two of the Tour of Chongming Island.
