Francisco Galván was called to account earlier this year by his team Equipo Kern Pharma, after footage surfaced on social media showing the Spanish rider deliberately jumping over a central barrier multiple times during a training ride. However, it did not stop at a reprimand, as Galván even saw his cycling career end because of it.
The incident in question took place near Barcelona. In footage circulating on social media, the Spanish rider can be seen deliberately jumping over a central barrier multiple times during a training ride, causing him to end up on the wrong side of the road. Although Galván appears to enjoy this, his team reacted extremely sharply.
"We are outraged by the footage showing one of our riders seriously violating traffic rules. We deeply regret and apologize for an incident that does not align with the values we uphold and that we want to represent as a team," Kern Pharma stated in a communiqué. The team promised to take disciplinary measures.

The Spanish outfit took no half-measures: the team decided not to select Galván anymore and even showed him the door. The 28-year-old rider was thus forced to end his professional career.

Shame
In a post on Instagram, Galván once again apologizes and reflects on a difficult period. "I even had to sell my car this year after being kicked out of the team. That’s when I realized how quickly everything can change. Since then, I’ve been training in black. Not because I like it, but because that’s how I feel. And even then, people recognize me and ask questions. I just smile, but inside I am ashamed."
