The best time on Mont Ventoux is no longer held by Iban Mayo. Tadej Pogačar shattered the record during his climb of Ventoux in the sixteenth stage of the 2025 Tour de France.
Many have tried to break the record Iban Mayo set in the 2004 Dauphiné (55m51s), but all have failed against the Basque climber’s time. Not Pogačar. After responding to a series of attacks from Jonas Vingegaard, he surged ahead in the final meters, putting time into the Dane. And he left an even bigger gap beyond Iban Mayo’s record.
According to Romanian social expert Mihai Simion, Pogačar posted a time of 54 minutes and 30 seconds over the 21-kilometer ascent of Mont Ventoux from Bédoin—over a minute faster than Mayo. Times do vary; the yellow jersey holder reportedly needed eleven seconds more, according to Eurosport—but either way, this performance clearly confirms that Mayo’s once almost untouchable record has been dethroned.
Jonas Vingegaard, who finished just two seconds behind the yellow jersey, logically also beat Mayo’s old record.
