Thanks to the police: Remco Evenepoel makes the start of the Tour of Catalonia
Remco Evenepoel will 'simply' make his appearance in the Tour of Catalonia on Monday, reports HLN. The Belgian came down from Teide under police escort on Saturday and caught his flight.
Due to Storm Therese, there have been many problems in Tenerife, where Evenepoel had been training at altitude in recent weeks. There is heavy rain, sometimes turning into intense snow showers. The slippery conditions caused by this are unfamiliar to people on the Spanish island. Many flights to and from Tenerife have been canceled in recent days. As a result, Evenepoel’s team called for help on Friday to get him off the island.
That has now been achieved. At Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, they did everything to get their team leader to Catalonia on time. They even considered traveling by helicopter, but that ultimately wasn’t necessary.
Under police escort, Evenepoel was driven to the airport. His flight also departed on time, ensuring the Belgian will definitely start the race.
