Johan Bruyneel and Lance Armstrong analyzed the route of the upcoming Tour de France in their podcast THEMOVE, but came to a simple conclusion: there won’t be much to do against Pogacar in the coming years.
No, the route is not tailored to Jonas Vingegaard or Remco Evenepoel, they believe. But that won’t matter much if Pogacar performs at his usual level. "We know what’s going to happen. It will either be very exciting or highly predictable. If Pogacar is the same rider as in recent years, it will be a lot of high pace riding, controlling the race, and putting doubt on the tactics of other teams," Armstrong stated.
Bruyneel thinks that Vingegaard and Evenepoel won’t be able to close the gap with Pogacar in the next few years. "The rider who will challenge Pogacar doesn’t exist yet. And no, it’s not Oscar Onley, Felix Gall, or Florian Lipowitz."
The Belgian believes Pogacar will complete his palmarès in the next three years before retiring. "He has four things left to win: Milan-Sanremo, Paris-Roubaix, the Vuelta, and the Olympic Games. After that, he’s done. He will have won everything there is to win," he concludes.
