Thibau Nys had a strong chance to win the race in the penultimate lap of the Superprestige in Diegem, but a crash in the sand section cost the Belgian dearly. In the end, Nys had to concede defeat to Tibor Del Grosso and was understandably disappointed with the outcome.
"I’m tired and also very disappointed," he began his account for the Sporza camera. "It was a great battle. We were really evenly matched. We (also referring to Del Grosso, ed.) both had strong sections on the course. However, I kept losing time in the sand, but could always make it up physically."
On the penultimate crossing of the sand strip, Nys made a crucial mistake. "It was actually a pretty good sand section, but I was riding a bit too close to the barriers and got caught with my shifter. After that, I felt I lost my edge. I didn’t have my freshest legs today anyway. Tibor definitely had fresher legs."
"I couldn’t recover it anymore. My legs completely shut down. Do I feel pain? My ribs are a bit bruised, which affected my breathing, but I’m not going to blame that. I made a technical error and was ultimately beaten on merit," Nys showed himself to be a gracious loser.
