Tibor Del Grosso leads Dutch six-man team at world championships mixed relay
After two years of absence, the Netherlands is back at the Mixed Team Relay event of the Cyclo-cross World Championships. On Friday afternoon, TeamNL will be represented by Tibor Del Grosso, Shirin van Anrooij, Guus van den Eijnden, Isis Versluis, Delano Heeren, and Leonie Bentveld.
For the mixed relay, Gerben de Knegt had to select one male and one female rider from the junior, under-23, and elite categories. According to the coach, his team aims to compete for the win at this ‘home’ World Championship. "When we line up, we always want to fight for the podium, and I believe we have a squad capable of winning World Championship gold."
With Dutch champions Del Grosso, Bentveld, and Versluis, along with top contenders in their categories like Van Anrooij, Van den Efinden, and Heeren, the Netherlands presents a very strong lineup.
Last year, the Dutch team skipped this event, ‘because the Dutch top riders preferred to focus on their individual championships’. Great Britain took the gold in Liévin, France, ahead of Italy and the host nation.
