Tim Wellens abandons Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne after severe crash and intense pain
Several crashes have already been reported in the first part of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. One of the main victims is Tim Wellens. The Belgian champion crashed just before the start of the live broadcast and could not continue.
The crash involving Wellens happened more than a hundred kilometers from the finish line. On the left side of the road, the rider from UAE Emirates XRG slipped. He did get back up but clearly walked into the field in a lot of pain. His race was over. It is still unclear what injuries Wellens has sustained.
Wellens is not the only rider forced to abandon. Rory Townsend, Elmar Reinders (both Unibet Rose Rockets), and Sean Christian (Modern Adventure) have also had to leave the race due to crashes.
