It had been anticipated for a while, but now UAE Emirates XRG has officially announced it: Tim Wellens will continue riding for Tadej Pogacar’s team in the coming years. The Belgian has extended his contract by two years, through 2027.
The 34-year-old Wellens enjoyed a dream season with UAE Emirates. In June this year, he became Belgian road race champion and in July, he claimed his first-ever stage win at the Tour de France. On the stage to Carcassonne, he outpaced Victor Campenaerts and Julian Alaphilippe.
With his contract extension, Wellens will enter his fourth and fifth seasons with the team. Next year, Julius Johansen and Vegard Staeke Langen will also still be part of the squad. They, too, have extended their contracts—each by one year.
